I do not need a solution (just sharing information)
I had this problem when installing the Endpoint Client on my laptop, running Windows 8.
I tried all the solutions mentioned here but it didn't solve the problem until I was leading to the Symantec Support Site to where I could download the Symantec Help from this link http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH170752
Once I installed it and ran the Pre-install check, it found that the Remote Registry Service on my laptop is disabled. I enabled it, started it and reboot. Once that was done, the install went through ok.
