I need clarification with SEP 12.1.3 GUP setup. I will try my best to explain my scenario.
My organization has one main location and approximately 15 remote sites (each remote site is it's own subnet). With the old SEP 11.x.x. we had our policies for the main site, and then created seperate containers for each remote site. Then for each site we had to create a LIVEUPDATE policy and define the GUP for that site.
My understanding was with SEP 12. we could place all of our client computers in one container and use the "multiple Group Update providers" to define GUPS.
My understanding was if I called out a hostname, the clients would recognize if there was a GUP on it's subnet and if YES would then report to it. If there was not a GUP for the clients particular subnet it would continue to use the SEPM for it's updates.
To test this we deployed the new SEP 12.1.3 client to the main office and to one remote site. I placed all clients in the same container and created a live update policy and defined a client at the remote site as the GUP. What happened was all the clients at the remote site received updates properly, but the main campus did not recieve updates.
I should note that I have "Maximum time that clients try to download updates from a Group Update Provider before trying the default management server:" (on the group update provider settings page) set to "NEVER". Does this need to be enabled so that clients that do not have a GUP defined for their subnet eventually go back to the SEPM? ***see below***
Or do I need to break out my container organizatino as I had it in SEP 11 and create a LIVE UPDATE policy for each remote site?
Thank you for the help and if you need any clarification please let me know.
***if YES to that question, what are the clients doing for say the 30 minutes I define. Are they creating traffic trying to get to a GUP on a different subnet, or do they just sit idle until the time defined is reached. If NO then ignore this part.
