Target devices: DataTraveler 100 G3
Source computers: Microsoft Windows XP desktop computers
As I am not familiar with the features of Symantec 12.1.3001.165 and I am "under the gun" to get some data moved properly on to a USB Thumb Drive, I first tried it and encountered the following issues:
SCENARIO (1)
1). Plugged the Thumb Drive into a Windows XP (SP3) desktop PC and although the drive showed up as "E:", Windows indicated, "The disk in the destination drive is full." when I tried to copy a multi-gigabyte e-mail file onto it.
(suggestion: If this is Symantec blocking the operation, why does it not pop-up a dialog box indicating: 'This operation is restricted on the computer. Please see your Supervisor or contact the Help Desk for further assistance.')
SCENARIO (2)
2). Plugged an identical drive (new, just out of the box) into another, different computer, also with Symantec 12.1.3001.165 on it, and I was able to copy a single 450 MB e-mail file onto the USB, but with the second multi-gigabyte file, Windows again indicated the Destination drive was full.
QUESTIONS:
1). Is the product's Endpoint protection "size sensitive"?
2). As I am in a bit of a hurry, it appears my only "workable" option is to copy the files ONE MORE TIME to another desktop computer with MORE THAN just Symantec on it. We do have new machines with a different combination of softwares that I believe will allow the file to be downloaded with a password assigned to protect the file intentional removal.
I would hope that future versions of Symantec Endpoint Protection would be improved to clearly indicate when the Symantec product is playing a role in the copy operation.
I was going to simply post this to the "Ideas" board, but decided to place it here instead in support of the fact othe fact other, similarly less knowledgeable Support personnel are encountering the same issue.
Respectfully submitted,
