Apple Hardware Test or Single User Mode with Ecryption Desktop

I need a solution

I've got a 2012 MacBookPro with OS X 10.9.4 (Mavericks) and the boot drive is encrypted with Encryption Desktop. Is there any way to access single user mode? This would normally be done on a Mac by holding the "s" key after hitting the power button, but Encryption Desktop seems to interfer with this. I'd also like to be able to get into Apple Hardware Test mode which would normally be done by holding the "d" key during startup, which also doesn't work.

(BTW, I already read and tried the advice in HOWTO77309 which was for the older "PGP Whole Disk Encryption" product. It suggested holding down option-s after entering your passphrase. That also didn't work).
