Continuous BSOD / Kernel Panic in OSX Mavericks and Symantec Encryption Desktop (PGP) 10.3.1

Hello,

I upgraded to OSX Mavericks today.

Ever since, when I boot the machine, after it logs-in and PGP starts to load, PGP creates a kernel panic and machine reboots. I'm not even able to anything to stop it during logon.

I believe issue is at /Library/Extensions/PGPnke.kext, what ever this is.

How can I get PGP running properly on OSX Mavericks?

Sorry for double-posting this as a reply on a previous thread and as a new topic, but after a week of silence I'm hoping this might lead to a quicker resolution;
We seem to be experiencing a peculiar problem since SEP 12 (still going on with 12.1.3) that's been annoying our fellow admins and users (~3500) for awhile now...
 
The System-process accumulates a massive amount of read I/O (anywhere from 10-100GB in a workday), about 80 percent of people affected aren't bothered by or notice it but those that do have systems that are almost completely bogged down and unresponsive when the activity kicks in. The slowdown mostly happens a few minutes after login and somewhere later on in the day, most likely after getting the latest definitions. An "SMC -Stop" immediately resolves the issue.

We upgraded from 11.x to 12, after which we started noticing more and more performance complaints. We've already tried using CleanWipe to remove all traces of the upgraded client, and completely reïnstalling the latest package from scratch. Also newly deployed systems exhibit these symptoms. Our SEPM-server is also the latest version. We mostly use Windows 7 x64 SP1 as our baseline OS with the 64-bit client, but can't say for sure if 32-bit XP systems are also affected since we're in the process of migrating those to 7.
 

It 'feels' like a full scan is performed everytime defs are updated, except that besides a single full scan once a month, there are no configured scheduled scans. Also no status window appears after enabling it and people that are having this issue experience it every single day so that just can't be it. We've tried disabling file cache and rescanning the cache to no avail. There is no significant cpu-activity increase, but disk activity rises to 100% which is sustained until it drops off suddenly.  Maybe it's an interaction problem with a different process or service but again, disabling SEP resolves it immediately.
 
With sysinternals process explorer as well as performance logging we haven't been able to identify the cause. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. We hope there are admins out there who dealt with the same issue in their organization and happened to come across the solution.

I am running Windows 7 and have Symantec Endpoint Protection (v12.1.1000.157 RU1).   I have a wifi network configured to WPA2.  I have been trying to connect an Airport Express (2nd gen).   At first, I was unable to "see" the AE on my network (Airport Utility unable to find the base station).   After adding firewall rules, I was able to see the base station; however, airplay did not work.   I was receiving errors from iTunes "problem connecting error code 15007".   In the process of modifying my UDP firewall rule, I can no longer see the AE on my network.   Could someone please provide the correct firewall rules (TCP, UDP, etc) that I need to create so that I can both see the AE base station on the network as well as successfully stream music via airplay?    Extremely frustrating!  Thank you in advance.

I see that SEP 12.1.4 shows the computer serial number in the client properties.  Is there a log that shows this information for all clients?

Encryption Desktop Virtual Disk not working after OS X update 2014-002

I need a solution

On April 28, 2014 I installed Apple's latest security update named "2014-002" after that I cannot open my virtual disks. If I double click on the unmounted disk nothing happens and if I try to mount it using the Encryption Desktop application it identifies the right size and location but under Cyperh it reads "Invalid Cipher"

I even tried creating a new disk image and it would not mount either. I have 2 iMac computers, tried the same on both with no success.

This has happened to me in the past with a major OS update and then Symantec has to catch-up; not sure if this is the case again.

I am running Encryption Desktop 10.2.3 MP1 Build 15337 on OS X 10.9.2

Any guidance is appreciated

How to cache pass phrases into OSX keychain for existing PGP disks

I am using Ecryption Desktop for Mav version 10.3.2 MP1 build 15337 on OS X Mavericks 10.9.3

I would like to store my PGP passphrases on the OS X Keychain but I have only found that option when creating a NEW virtual disk; during the process there is a box that reads "Save passphrase in Keychain"

However, I have many other EXISTING disks that do not show the "Save passphrase in Keychain" option while opening them. 

Any guidance is appreciated

Install Endpoint Client - Unexpected Error Access Denied

I was wondering if anyone has seen this issue or if its a known issue.

When deploying the Symantec Endpoint Client, the following message is thrown:

 

An error prevents this program from continuing:

Unexpected error.  Access is denied

 

Now this happens when there is no logged in user, and we push the setup out using Symantec Management Server.  If there is a user logged in the install will continue as expected.

The account used to install the software has local admin rights on the target computer.

 

Any insight would be great!!!

How to refresh Symantec End Point Application database?
Symantec End Point Learned Application Notification reports a certain unauthorized application (e.g. sniffer) installed on an endpoint but when I checked on particular end point system, I couldn't find that application..
How can we verify that the reported learned app is as per recent scan? or is there a way to rescan the particular system or all systems?

Upgrading SEP clients to 12.1.4 MP1 with SCCM

I need a solution

Hello Guys , I have upgraded my SEPM's to 12.1.4 MP1 , now I need to upgrade my clients running 12.1.3 to 12.1.4 MP1 . The total number of clients are 1700. 

Iniitally the clients were deployed using SCCM . Now I want to ask you that should I upgrade them using SCCM or via SEPM auto upgrade feature ? Which is recommended in the current scenerio ?

Secondly If I go with the SCCM , then what are the steps I am required to follow to make the upgrade happen ? Should I simply give the 12.1.4 MP1 clients 32 bit and 64 bit packages to my SCCM team and they only need to simply push it ? What are best practices I should follow while doing this ?

Hi,

 

We had two users within our work place who clicked the same link in a email that was malicious. We ran a full scan on both PCs and one of the PCs showed it was still infected with the backdoor.necurs!kmem ntos virus. The other pc showed that it was ok after a full scan. I disconnected it from the network and called symantec. The person i talked to had me check within symantec and it seemed the virus had been deleted, so she web ex in had me check the logs and run the health scan. the health scan didnt show anything serious just things to look into that maybe suspicious. she had me reboot the pc and start a full scan again, so i did and the full scan only took about 5 minutes to complete, which before took about 2 hours which was odd, but it didn't show th virus. however, I noticed symantec was disabled. I also looked on the symantec managment console and noticed it showed the pc was still infected with a virus. I got the symantec engineer to log into the management console and she had me look at more logs which showed backdoor.necurs!kmem with the action left alone. So, we have removed the pc and we will wipe the pc but my concern is that sensitive info may have been gotten. How would I know if someone was allowed access to get info to the PC? Are there any tools i can use on the pc to find this out?
